Arthritis Q & A

What is arthritis?

Arthritis is a collection of over 100 conditions that cause inflammation, pain, and reduced range of movement in the joints. The most common form of arthritis is osteoarthritis, which is a degenerative condition caused by the effects of wear-and-tear.

Osteoarthritis develops when the cartilage that covers the ends of your bones starts to wear away. Cartilage protects the bones so they slide smoothly within your joints. When cartilage starts to degenerate, the bones lose their protection and eventually begin to rub against one another.

Rheumatoid arthritis is the other main form of arthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disorder in which the immune system, which normally protects the body from infection, attacks the cartilage in the joints.

What are the symptoms of arthritis?

The key symptom of arthritis is joint pain. This can range from a dull, constant ache to a sharp, throbbing pain and is often made worse by changes in barometric pressure, like before wet weather. Other symptoms include:

  • Stiff joints
  • Stiffness when getting out of bed or standing
  • Swollen joints
  • Tenderness in the joints
  • Restricted range of movement
  • Joints that twist and distort (if you have rheumatoid arthritis)

Over time these symptoms worsen, and in some cases, arthritis can lead to severely impaired mobility and loss of function.

What treatment options are available for arthritis?

The team at One Life Chiropractic offers advanced treatments for arthritis patients, including:

  • Deep tissue laser therapy with photobiomodulation
  • Wharton’s jelly stem cell therapy
  • Other Regenative Labs orthobiologics
  • Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections
  • Additional joint injections
  • Physical therapy
  • Therapeutic exercises
  • Manual manipulation
  • Pulsed electromagnetic field therapy
  • Knee decompression
  • Dietary supplements
  • ArthoStim® adjustments
  • Cupping
  • Back on Trac spinal decompression
  • Graston Technique®

These treatments help alleviate your pain and stiffness by reducing inflammation and repairing damaged tissues.

During stem cell therapy or joint injections, your provider injects regenerative cells into your injured joints. The new cells then develop into cartilage, muscle, bone, and other tissues your body needs to repair arthritic damage in the joint.

You might also try using ice or heat packs, wearing a brace, altering your diet, getting plenty of sleep, and altering your exercise routine to include lower-impact exercises. One Life Chiropractic provides Ortho Molecular dietary supplements to enhance joint health and overall wellness.

Although arthritis is incurable and likely worsens over time, the One Life Chiropractic team can maximize your ability to stay mobile and keep the pain under control. Call the office or request an appointment online today.
